Before I go ahead and start this review I’ll introduce myself. My name’s Steve, I’m from the UK and I’m currently 17. I have an 8Gb iPod Touch 1G and it is only recently jailbroken. I’ve been friends with Harley for quite some time, he’s helped me out here and there when there have been some things I’ve needed coding. I can design website myself in Photoshop, but I have no idea how to code. I’ll be running a few reviews and articles from now on.
Considering the huge success that was Tap Tap Revenge, there is no surprise that Tapulous went ahead and made a sequel. The original’s game play was fun, but the song content lacked and it became boring quickly without anything spicing it up. Later updates included Revenge Mode (8x), Online Play and Downloadable Content (DLC); this kept it popular but for me it wasn’t enough.

The sequel adds a slew of new features that isn’t just limited to the UI upgrade, this new UI makes it easier to see where exactly to tap and making it easier to time your taps. Also in this new screenshot you can see the addition of Hold Tappers, just hold your finger down when the Tapper arrives until the ‘tail’ passes the area you have to tap. Another addition is the ability to have two, or even three notes come down at the same time, so you will have to use two fingers at the same time often.

As you can see here the Downloadable Content returns with a better song selection, this is expanded every Thursday with the event that Tapulous like to call ‘Tap Tap Thursday’ where they release a new song up for download to your iPod/iPhone. The progress bar for the download is much more accurate to the actual status of the download, but it still seems a little inaccurate toward the end, seemingly finishing and then jumping backwards.

A few downsides to this is where, like in the screenshot above, there are hundreds of Tappers coming down at you and you’re hitting them all, the game may experience a drop in Frames Per Second (FPS) thus lagging slightly and you have no control over keeping your combo. This can easily compromise a good scoring run but in the end this may be fixed in a future update.
My final score for this game is a 9.3 out of 10, the game would have got a higher mark if the song selection was better and the lag was not present, but it’s still well worth downloading considering it’s free!
