App Review - Tap Tap Revenge 2 (Free)

Author: Steve | Filed under: Applications, Games, Review

Before I go ahead and start this review I’ll introduce myself. My name’s Steve, I’m from the UK and I’m currently 17. I have an 8Gb iPod Touch 1G and it is only recently jailbroken. I’ve been friends with Harley for quite some time, he’s helped me out here and there when there have been some things I’ve needed coding. I can design website myself in Photoshop, but I have no idea how to code. I’ll be running a few reviews and articles from now on.

Considering the huge success that was Tap Tap Revenge, there is no surprise that Tapulous went ahead and made a sequel. The original’s game play was fun, but the song content lacked and it became boring quickly without anything spicing it up. Later updates included Revenge Mode (8x), Online Play and Downloadable Content (DLC); this kept it popular but for me it wasn’t enough.

The sequel adds a slew of new features that isn’t just limited to the UI upgrade, this new UI makes it easier to see where exactly to tap and making it easier to time your taps. Also in this new screenshot you can see the addition of Hold Tappers, just hold your finger down when the Tapper arrives until the ‘tail’ passes the area you have to tap. Another addition is the ability to have two, or even three notes come down at the same time, so you will have to use two fingers at the same time often.

As you can see here the Downloadable Content returns with a better song selection, this is expanded every Thursday with the event that Tapulous like to call ‘Tap Tap Thursday’ where they release a new song up for download to your iPod/iPhone. The progress bar for the download is much more accurate to the actual status of the download, but it still seems a little inaccurate toward the end, seemingly finishing and then jumping backwards.

A few downsides to this is where, like in the screenshot above, there are hundreds of Tappers coming down at you and you’re hitting them all, the game may experience a drop in Frames Per Second (FPS) thus lagging slightly and you have no control over keeping your combo. This can easily compromise a good scoring run but in the end this may be fixed in a future update.

My final score for this game is a 9.3 out of 10, the game would have got a higher mark if the song selection was better and the lag was not present, but it’s still well worth downloading considering it’s free!

New theme!

Author: Harley | Filed under: News

Hey guys, we, as you can see, have changed the theme. This is another Smashing Magazine theme because we love them so much and we can’t be assed to make one ourselves!

Secondly, with the depletion of articles (as you can see we’ve run the hell out of ideas) we will be turning this into an iPhone RSS Aggregator for all the iPhone news sites we subscribe to. We have a big list of about 13 sites that frequently update that will provide you with the best content ever. You’re seriously gonna love it. Thirdly, what are we doing with the contents of the blog? A book. We’re making a book out of all the tutorials that we’ve written. So stay tuned for that!

Sorry for all those that loved tutorials, they’ll still be there! We’ll still have a ‘blog’ that will have very very occasional tutorials and mainly news stuff!

Look forward to getting it together!

Thanks,

~Harley

Ray asked…

Author: Harley | Filed under: Question

What if u want to keep the appearance entirely the same?
Is it possible to do so?
AND, I’ve been hearing things like you can’t turn the iPod off after jail breaking …. so I’m wondering if it’s all true???

Bluetooth, iPhone’s first teeth.

Author: Henry | Filed under: Anti-Apple, Jailbreaking, News, quicktip

So the guys at www.http://www.ibluetoothproject.com have created the first bluetooth stumbler for the iPhone (bluetooth transfer).

To install simply go to Cydia -> Sections -> System -> SweetTooth, then click install and confirm.
Once installed, just press the home button and find the icon in your springboard, it should look like a Blue tooth. How original.
Although it does nothing yet, but discovers discoverable devices (tongue twister), it does mean that BlueTooth transfer IS coming.
Ill give you guys updates as they come.

FLASH FOR IPHONE. (Updated with video)

Author: Henry | Filed under: News, Non-Jailbroken

Is it here? is Vodafone being Mean?

Since the dawn of time (aka when iPhones came out), people have wondered and dreamed about flash. Before this website was founded, Harley and I saw this but thought nothing of it and just told our friends. But I have seen it again, and realised that it was up before july, as there is no App store App, before even talk of flash for iPhone by Adobe. Now that i have a website to post things, its now up. I now have a video up to prove those non believers.

The reason I have watermarked these photos is if these photos become big then we will have more hits on the website. thanks guys.

Yeah guys! BeejiveIM the AMAZING IM (MSN/AIM/ICQ/WHATEVER YOU USE) is on sale, down from it’s ridiculous price of $20 Australian to only $15 (Hey, that’s two whole coffees)! Read on for the link (Appstore logo at the top).

So go grab it. That or find a cracked IPA, but we advise against that here at Simple iPhone Guide
